Home of the Braves
Pamela Ackerson
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
2003 lst World Library
ISBN: 188747272X
A modern-day doctor is transported to the Great Plains & into a fight across time for freedom.
Dreams -- where our most intimate desires cast us into worlds beyond rules or boundaries. Karen Anderson, on hiatus between jobs, buys a bed for her new home. Taking a nap on her newly-acquired antique fourposter she finds herself dreaming of faraway lands & people. Except it's much more than mere dreams because when she uses her skills as a doctor, they heal.
Unlike in her present life, where she seems to have only one friend & no promising man on the horizon, Karen finds herself in a strange & dramatic position as an envoy from the Great Spirit. She is embraced by the tribe, & swept into the arms of a tall “sensual, dark-haired warrior”. Across the span of time they fight for yesterday & the promise of tomorrow.
Live the adventure of one of the most controversial battles of all times. Experience the romance & love, laughter & life of the Lakota Sioux Indians. Come to know Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse & feel the driving force that brought Custer to his tragic end.
That having been said Home of the Braves is chock-a-block with action & passion, history & humanity, & while I commend Pamela Ackerson for breathing life back into this bygone era of the Plains People, & the viscious betrayals & the wars between the Indian culture & the American government's agenda, I was disappointed by the “piss-pour” editing job. The book deserved better. It gets three teapots for imagination, & whoever the editor was at 1st World Library should get the boot!
