The Icarus Hunt
Timothy Zahn
(Associate Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)
1999 Bantam Books, NY USA
ISBN: 055310702X
In a universe of iron-fisted control of all galactic shipping, renegade Jordan McKell survives by dabbling in interstellar smuggling for the last of the free traders. Along with his alien Jordan is hired by a mysterious human to ferry a ship & its unknown cargo to Earth.
Timothy Zahn can really take you for a ride & drop you into some impossible situations! As well as writing good science fiction, he does extremely well at mystery too.
It was good to read a book again that made me feel like a kid again. With characters I'd really like to know doing things I'd really like to do, in a plot that let me forget about the details & just live in the adventure.
In the spiral arm of the galaxy Jordan McKell hires out to transport the rattrap, tramp ship Icarus & its sealed cargo. Even as the ship shakes apart at its seams, a saboteur is making things worse.
Jordan has a very real alien partner with two ferret-like symbiots, a hilarious sense of humor, a keen eye for beauty & nothing is as it seems until the adventure ends.
A fine intergalactic romp!
Timothy Zahn's oeuvre is bigger than a spaceship & includes:
Star Wars & Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy; the Blackcollar works; the Cobra works; Deadman Switch; A Coming of Age; Spinneret; Triplet; Warhorse; the Conguerors' Trilogy
