 Brothers in Arms
 Ben Weaver
 (Reviewer - - D. H. BROWN)

 2001 EOS/HarperCollins
  ISBN: 0061059722

Book Cover Amazon's Value is: $5.99

It takes more than weapons & training to survive the galactic game of war.

For colonist Scott St. Andrew, the only route off his poisonous rock of a home planet, is the elite South Point Military Academy on the Moon Exeter. If he can complete the military's most grueling training program, he will qualify to become an officer in the Guard Corps of the Terran Alliance. Genetic defects, however, have reduced Scott's 1-in-1000 chance for escape & make him a target for ridicule & ritual hazing by his classmates.

In the bigger picture, a long-smoldering colonial resentment against the Alliance erupts into open rebellion. Suddenly, Cadet St. Andrew must choose a side to die for. Sent into deep-space combat long before his training is complete, Scott St. Andrew must survive horrific baptisms by combat & the "conditioning" process of a vanished alien race before he can know his true identity & his role in the imperiled future of a universe at war.

Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

When browsing the HarperCollins/EOS website, or I should say their science fiction section, Brothers in Arms popped out at me because of name of Ben Weaver. So I requested they send me a copy for review, which they graciously did.

Like any science fiction book that falls into my hands, it was devoured greedily. I liked the stories, & the plot line. I liked the character development. I just thoroughly enjoyed it! Until I turned the last page & felt as if I had been left spinning my feet in mid-air with nowhere to go.

Now the old show business cliche that you always leave them wanting more definitely applies to Brothers in Arms.

A good read with few flaws & a much too abrupt ending!

If Ben Weaver doesn't write more of this universe he's created, he's missing a great opportunity!

At the end of Brothers in Arms EOS Publishers have added an interview with Ben Weaver.
