Book Cover

The battle between the haves & the have-nots rages on & the gulf is widening.

Once technology reaches a certain point, the have-nots are not needed anymore. What will happen then?

Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

When computers have taken over all the work areas of those of us who have not graduated from high school -- what then happens to our world? We're already there in some countries. Value has been taken away from the general populace because technology has truly made them valueless. What will happen to our world? The outcome of the premise of this book is that as technology increases, the less value the have-nots will have because they become only a total drain on the whole economy.

100 years from now, The Last of the Underclass might well be considered prophetic! If it is rewritten!

The only solution for the human species is, in fact, genocide of the have-nots. Genetic improvements of the haves have now excluded the underclass. That being said & acknowledged as being timely & one probable future scenario, Dean Warren has obfuscated. I give this book 2 Teapots on the strength of its premise, because it is intriguing & gives the Reader some deep thoughts on the future of our species.

While the premise of The Last Underclass is really fascinating, I have to say that a bit more plot development was needed. By the time the Reader reaches the end of Chapter 8 the protagonist, John Quiet Griffin, aka, Quiet, has gone from the dreglands of a teenage petty ghetto thief to the heady realms of sitting as a representative of the world council. In four years, as near as I can tell. Accelerated genetics, you know!

Dean Warren has built a hair-raising story, while expecting the Reader to cruise along on pure faith. For sophisticated Readers, this will be a bumpy ride. I am one of those, having read the best of the best. I have little appetite for reading anything less. I felt he had pushed the river rather than flowed with the story; preached rather than listened to his Muse.

I was also astonished at the poor quality of workmanship of the final product -- poor proofing & printing techniques. Dean Warren has great stories, he needs to get himself to a reliable editor & a better publisher!

Dean Warren lives with his wife in Orlando, Florida. Educated at UCLA, the London School of Economics, & Harvard, he sold aircraft in Southwest Asia, worked for the State Department, & was Director of Strategic Planning for a major Defense contractor.

Xlibris also published his first novel, Man Over Mind, based on the latest neurological research, this science fiction adventure has been widely acclaimed for its philosophical insights & hard-hitting action.
