  Silent Service
   Nina M. Osier

   (Sr. Staff Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)
  2001 POD: www.eBooksOnthe.Net
    ISBN: None

Explorer ship Captain Kate Landay is on her way home from should have been her final mission when she gets caught up in a sector-wide coup. She is accused first of insubordination, & then of treason, for refusing to sacrifice her ship & her crew to cover up a superior officer's actions. For that she gave up her life to the Questioners.

When Silent Service came over Rebecca's transom from the author, Nina M. Osier, as a print on demand book (POD) & science fiction to boot, I grabbed it!

The author had thoughtfully provided a letter asking that we please disregard any text kerning problem & miscellaneous typos in the book & treat it as an ARC.

I share My Editor's dislike of books that are printed before their time & I was not greatly encouraged as I began to read Silent Service with runtogetherwords & mispunctuation & then with an ever so gentle touch, the author's writing began to hold me.

As I said, the writing was gentle. The characters were laudable & flawed. The worlds which the author creates are imaginable & in the realm of the possible.

This book isn't heavy on technology although the science fiction is credible. I don't think that I've ever read a science fiction book that was so quiet & yet so exciting.

Will I read it again. Probably not. Will I read something else from Nina Osier? Absolutely!

This is one author that I sincerely hope can find her voice & a publisher that will do her justice.

Is Silent Service worth reading? Without a doubt!
