 Book Review Rating
 Frequencies
 Joshua Ortega
 (Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)

 2001 Jodere Group
 ISBN: 1588720691

It was as if an infinite number of frequencies had converged at one single point, making order out of chaos.

Sr. Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

Good, hard earthbound future science fiction with a dose of philosophy over the top.

I very seldom find myself enjoying uncorrected galley proofs of any book, as I more often than not, find the climb over the misspellings, bad punctuation, incorrect line spacing, paragraph misalignment, etc., not worth the effort to get to the meat of the story.

I know the book was sent to Rebecca, I don't know how it ended up in my reading pile but it sat there for a while until the day came when I actually had nothing else to read. So, I was forced by the hand of fate to pick it up & start reading.

Besides all of the aforementioned problems, I found myself drawn into this familiar future world set around Seattle, Puget Sound, Lake Union, Bellevue & Redmond. & enjoyed the way Joshua Ortega created the setting for Frequencies.

I found myself deeply engaged with his premise from which the title of the book is derived.

On the most part I liked his characters & their parts in the plot, I like the plot, in fact, I liked the beginning, the middle & the end! A rare treat!

& I liked his future language development which is reminiscent of Allen Dean Foster's The Mocking Program

I don't think it's easy taking the common language we all know & create new words, meanings & shades of connotation to make it flow in future speak, or “freekspeak” as Ortega coins it.

For a first effort Frequencies impressed me & left me with lots to think about, & some definite “freekie” thoughts.

You will enjoy this one!
