In 2204 a scientific team is forced to prematurely evacuate a rare, life-supporting planet, Maleiva III. Nineteen years later a rogue moon is discovered hurtling toward it which starts a mad scramble to salvage whatever they can before disaster wipes the planet out.
The only qualified professional within lightyears of the ill-fated planet is superluminal pilot Priscilla "Hutch" Hutchins. She must lead the last foray to the surface of Maleiva III, to glean its lifeforms & lost civilizations even as time runs out.
Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:
Deepsix was an absolute galloping read! Of course I wouldn't expect any less from Jack McDevitt. His previous book Infinity Beach was absolutely stunning!
He writes science fiction like he is weilding a ruler. It's hard & as straight as a string. You know when you finish one of his books, you've been there, done that, & you can't wait to get hold of another one.
Deepsix is all about our human foibles & no matter how advanced we get, we'll still be human. We'll still have our saints & our sinners, which, of course, would make life unbearably dull without them.
Is Deepsix a buy? Absolutely! Will I be waiting for his next effort? Oh, most assuredly! Am I going to go looking for his other books -- definitely!
Buy this book -- you will not be disappointed!
