Probability Sun
Nancy Kress
(Sr. Staff Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)
2001 TOR Books
ISBN: 0312874073

The human race is losing an interstellar war against the mysterious aliens Fallers. A shipload of scientists from Earth is sent to study an enigmatic, artifact discovered on a distant planet, while the military crew of their ship is secretly holding prisoner the only live Faller ever captured.
The artifact is not only a powerful weapon, it is the key to a lost superscience that the Fallers have decoded. It might also be a doomsday machine.
Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:
My first exposure to Nancy Kress was her Sleepless Trilogy. Her writing enveloped me. Drawing me into the world she had created, & giving me stories that fill the heart of this ardent Sci-Fi reader.
I then went on to read a couple of her other works, before I lit on Probability Moon, the prequel to this book. I don't know why I didn't write a review of it at the time, but somehow it slipped through the cracks. & then, when browsing the library shelves, Probability Sun gently slipped out & into my hands. I even went back into the stacks, found Probability Moon & brought it home, & avidly refreshed myself with humanity's contact with the intriguing aliens Fallers.
I do like Nancy Kress' premise. That we have never been alone, we are not now alone & we will never be alone, & that at least some of our future contacts will test the human species' survival skills to the utmost.
By the time I finished Probability Sun, I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I would be waiting with anxious eyes to see its sequel arrive.
I really like how Nancy Kress writes! She's engaging, & her work is riveting. Highly recommended!
I would encourage all Sci-Fi Fans to go looking for this author's works. You will not regret it!
