 The Slaadikaar War
 Kevin J. Kinne
 (Sr. Staff Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)

 2002 Writers Club Press/iUniverse
  ISBN: 059510021X

Book Cover Amazon's price is: $17.95

In 2032 humanity is all but wiped out by their corruption & self-destructive tendencies, & by the Skendri, a species humans themselves had created.

Five millennia later, the ruler of the Slaadikaar Holy Order, is negotiating the return of the last of his people to their ancestral home, & religious strife between the monotheistic Slaadikaar & the polytheistic Nihanese erupts into terrorism, & an all out war for the world begins.

Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

Since reading my first science fiction book, over 45 years ago, & even though I still find lots of new Big Thoughts being written by contemporary authors, seldom does anything absolutely new hit my reading tastebuds.

Back in May of 2002, I received an inquiry from Mr. Kevin J. Kinne to review his book The Slaadikaar War. I read what promotional material he sent in his email, so although I was not turned off, it was with some reluctance that I agreed to review his book. Mainly because my time is limited, I really hesitate taking on new books from unknown author, & because of this, it took almost 3 months for Mr. Kinne's book to percolate its way to the top of my reading pile.

Because of my movie tastes I have seen only one Anime Movie in my life. Anime, for the uninitiated is, a somewhat strident cartoon movie genre that originated in Japan, first in comic books, then in movies & with a certain set, hugely popular.

Although I remember being somewhat fascinated & intrigued as I watched, the movie has faded from my consciousness to the point where I cannot even tell you its name.

Now to the meat of Mr. Kinne's offering -- The Slaadikaar War.

When I first opened this book, & I would say for the first 50 pages, I had difficulties. A little voice in the back of my mind screamed “What is this? What is this?” & I even found myself laying it down, saying “That's it! Enough!” But because I'd committed to reading it, I'd pick it up & slog on.

The first 50 pages took me three days. & then, like eating an elephant one bite at a time, I became intrigued & started digesting the content.

What an interesting read!

Very well written, albeit a bit run-on at times. Once my teeth were firmly set into the meat, I found myself chewing & chewing & chewing, with new flavors constantly being added to the mix, with engaging dialogue & breathtaking scope!

Oh yes, Mr. Kinne, you have broadened my horizons! I don't know if this sprout off the science fiction genre will take root & grow. As an avid science fiction fan, this utterly galloping mix will now become an occasional part of my reading diet.

My recommendation? If you're a hard science fiction fan, & you like your action to race, give The Slaadikaar War a read.

Great new concept! I wasn't disappointed & neither will you be.
