The story begins on the island of Atunluck where Zeffa, a fourteen-year-old girl, exhibits her strange magic as she witnesses her father's death when his ship sinks in a severe storm.

The island people believe she may be the only one who possesses the magic necessary to stop the Flintermond who are rapidly subduing everyone on all the islands around them.

With no one to teach her, her people take Zeffa to their citadel & try to figure out what to do with her. When the Flintermond attack, one of the elders takes her underground. Here, she meets the Mongods, or trolls, who send her off to be executed. She is able to escape & with death confronting her everywhere, she wonders whether she will ever see her beloved Atunluck again. Soon she finds herself on a path of unexpected twists & turns where all is not what it seems, & friends are sometimes enemies.

The Sorceress of Atunluck is intended for the 12 to 16 age group, but I believe 10 to 11 year-olds would also enjoy it.

It is easy to read & the artwork adds a nice touch.
