In the early years of the 21st century, there has been a massive worldwide financial crash & politics is hindering any recovery. Meanwhile humanity has advanced into space & through constant monitoring, discovered some asteroids that have changed their orbits & are now headed for Earth.
The matriarch of the vast space industry van Huyten family sets about preparing her considerable resources to reach the asteroids with the idea of either destroying or diverting them.
Meanwhile there are others with their computer & security expertise & dedicated pilots & space travelers to get on board even as the political movers & shakers throw obstacles in everyone's way.
Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:
Since discovering Michael Flynn & his book In The Country of the Blind I have been following this author's body of work. With every one of his new books I feel like I have discovered an author I can trust.
His characters & characterizations & the story lines he puts forth ring true. Like someone who has been there, done that & is came back to tell me about it. Though his body of work to date is not long his potential seems to grow with each new project he brings to fruition.
Over the years my experience with authors, especially within the Science Fiction genre, is that they are hard pressed to keep a train of thought from book to book & yet allow each book in a series to stand on its own. Michael Flynn does this grandly!
Whether it's a year between books or two, when I pick it up I am enthralled & engrossed immediately, & it keeps me turning the pages, wanting to find out what happens next.
Falling Stars is the final book in his Stars Series which brings together a dream for the human race & its stepping out of the cradle with the hard realities & political necessities such dreams must really face. Anyone with children knows that first steps bring bloody noses & so it is brought to life in vivid color in Flynn's writings.
I think if anything characterizes a Michael Flynn book it's about hope & first steps & that's what keeps me coming back when I see his name on the spine of a book.
I would have to say that since my years of reading Robert Heinlein I have yet to find an author that has drawn my attention more than Michael Flynn. He takes a very messy world view, scrambles it up with a host of characters & their very messy lives & brings a clarity to the struggle. I really like that!
So take my word for it! Go hunt Michael Flynn up in your library, bookstore or Amazon.com & sit down & be entertained!
