A Civil Campaign
Lois McMaster Bujold
(Sr. Staff Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)
1999 A Baen Books Original, NY USA
ISBN: 0671578278
Lord Miles Vorkosigan, a recent galactic covert agent & now the youngest Imperial Auditor appointed since the Time of Isolation, is madly in love with the beautiful Vor widow Ekaterin Vorsoisson. She is violently allergic to marriage as a result of her first exposure & Miles comes up with a cunning plan.
Both Miles' clone brother & cousin also have cunning plans to solve their unrequited love dilemma & when the men on their planet outnumber the women five to four, the odds for wedded bliss are challenging.
David writes: Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! That's what a Vorkosigan adventure is all about! Lois McMaster Bujold has never disappointed me since her first work: Shards of Honor fell into my hands. I find myself eagerly looking for her next book. With the loss of my Poppa & a dear friend this past year, well, this one slipped by me!
There I was standing in our local library when it jumped off the shelf into my hands. I want you to know that this is one author's work I do not lay down once I start reading. The Editor comments that I'm not worth a hill of beans once I stick my nose into Miles Vorkosigan's life.
So, in case you haven't got it by now & you're muttering: “Well, is he recommending this book or not?“ I am, I am, I am! When I read about Miles Vorkosigan I laugh, I cry, I call his stupid & then I'm immensely pleased when he finds his way out of his dilemma.
With at least 12 books behind her in this series, I don't know how many more Lois McMaster Bujold has in her; if anything can be told A Civil Campaign I'm sure it's not over yet!
Miles' universe is a rich one: food, drink, atmosphere & relationships. Would I like to be Miles? Absolutely not! Do I like to read about him, oh yes! definitely science fiction with a comedic twist.
