Encounters Within Inner Space. A researcher discovers that human minds are inhabited by energy beings & begins an odyssey into his own mindland.
When Professor John Robis becomes a subject in a secretive sensory-input experiment, he doesn't anticipate he will enter a portal more mysterious than a black hole. Crossing a chasm between matter & spirit, he discovers a world inhabited by beings much like ourselves who live within us.
There he enters a strange medieval world -- the unconscious -- where castles are built from life experiences, where the mindlings who comprise his identity confront a fate neither he nor they could have imagined.
That having been said, hold onto your hats, folks, you're in for a strange & wonder-filled flight of fancy about love & power, & philosophy, on which you will ponder the origins of thought, the expression of creativity, & perhaps find the source of self-understanding.
Not my usual cup of tea: I'm not big on “inner treks” & deep masculine ponderings no matter how “universal” they may seem: ethics & religion being highly gender-specific things, however, it reminded me of the paintings of Hieronymous Bosch, although Mindlings is much more thoughtful... & cute = clever, sharp, shrewd.
So, if you're in the mood to have your mind shaken & stirred, sink you teeth into the Mindlings. You'll find them quite tasty... or your mind will!
Normand R. Bernier, an emeritus professor at Kent State University, is currently writing a sequel to Mindlings.
