Beyond Infinity
Gregory Benford
(Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)

2004 Warner Books
ISBN: 044653059X

Cley is an Original, a genetically pure member of the most ancient species of humans.

Like other members of her forest-dwelling tribe, she expects to live a long & quiet life working for the more sophisticated humans in the great Library of Life.

Then catastrophe strikes when a strange, transdimensional life-form obliterates the Library & kills off Earth's Originals -- except Cley.

Sr. Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

There have been times, in the past, while reading Gregory Benford, I have become convinced his grasp upon reality was shaky at best. & of course, that is exactly what makes him the great sci-fi author that he is.

Any good science fiction aficionado will remember the novella Beyond the Fall of Night & Arthur C. Clarke's Against the Fall of Night. Both those works went into shaping Beyond Infinity. Another Benford work, Against Infinity, has lent its complexity to this book.

Beyond Infinity is a very complex & intricate look at humanity's possible far future -- millions of years ahead. Through innumerable revisions humanity has attempted to resurrect a version of the genetic original. With all the difficulty imagined, trying to imagine this distant future, Gregory Benford has applied all of his great skills & come up with another masterpiece.

If you're looking for space opera, you won't find it here. What you will find is the imprints of destiny left as a single spoke in the great Wheel of Life.

I was entranced, & look forward to adding the hardcover edition of this book to my permanent library. If you like Big Thoughts & aren't afraid to dream, & your imagination still likes to imagine, lay your hands on a copy of Beyond Infinity.

More from Gregory Benford:
Timescape
Across the Sea of Suns
Far Futures
Worlds Vast and Various
Eater
& many more.
