Did Christ Survive the Crucifixion? Did Christ's travels through ancient Asia end in Kashmir?
There is a tomb in the Kan Yar area of Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, that has been, for centuries, attributed to Yuz Asaf. In search of evidence supporting this, Abubakr Ben Ishmael Salahuddin has written a cross between a travelogue & a history of contemporaneous religions.
Long, long ago, I read a novella by D. H. Lawrence called, I think, The Man Who Would Not Die. It was the first time I'd come across the idea that perhaps, Jesus had not died, instead he had wandered off to India. At the time, I lived in a Christian society, & everyone was appalled at the idea raised by this great novelist.
This year, Jammu Press sent me a review copy of Saving The Savior, & not being a Christian, this subject does not bother me, rather it intrigues.
Abubakr Ben Ishmael Salahuddin has written a utilitarian body of evidence, complete with black & white photos of likely sites, & morsels from such diverse sources as The Bible, The Quran, Flavius Josephus, Holger Kersten, Dr. Fida Haissnain, Sir Francis Younghusband, Nicolas Notovitch, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, James Burke, & The Vatican, among many.
This author also has a lively sense of humor. One quotation that resounds even now is: "The truth will set you free, but first it might piss you off."
Even though Saving The Savior is a scholarly work, I found myself nodding sagely, now & again, as connections clicked into place, making conclusions almost self-evident.
This is a unique & curious story that Abubakr Ben Ishmael Salahuddin has to tell, which couldn't have been told, except as fantasy, half a century ago. Since then many have sifted through the clues left by the scribes of yesteryear, & recent research by erudite historians & theologians.
Saving The Savior is definitely for those Readers who enjoy connecting the dots in the saga of religions, who had a sneaking suspicion that..., & for those who want to know much, much more about what others have seen, known & thought about down the centuries about the young man from Nazareth, who captured so many people's imagination.
