The Nazarenes
Robert L. Gibson
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
2005 AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1420826875
Who were the Nazarenes?
As the author writes The Nazarenes “should help by giving you the credible truth” about this ancient sect whose members included Samson & Jesus.
The reason this title receives 3 teapots is not because:
1. it's only 97 pages long, printed in full uppercase text.
2. in need of serious proofreading.
3. a tract of esoterica = arcane, private, recondite, abstruse, difficult, obscure, secret, hidden, learned, mysterious, occult, rarefied, “way-out”.
...it's because I found it quite compelling & fascinating!
We don't normally review this type of book, & probably will not again, however...
Who were the Nazarenes? Robert Gibson sets out to throw a little light on who they were, how they lived & what their moral codes were, as he interprets the Old & New Testament with a modern mind. Against my preferences, I was hooked!
So, who were the Nazarenes?
Who were the “meek” who would inherit the earth?
In a time when the (evil) Roman Empire oppressed the Judeans, how did Nazarenes communicate?
What special powers did the Nazarenes have?
Who was Joseph & what did he do for a living?
Who were Miriam, Mary & Mary Magdalene?
What was life, marriage & burial really like in those days?
What do the planets, stars & the Zodiac have to do with Jesus?
What did Jesus really look like & why?
Why would Jesus never have drunk wine at the Last Supper?
What did Jesus really say on The Cross?
Why is eating ham at Easter so strange?
Why is the sight of the soles of the feet so insulting in the Middle East?
What do the spirituals handed down by American Slaves really mean?
What is the last thing written in the New Testament?
& many more such questions are answered.
If you liked Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, & I did, you're going to enjoy this little book, which will make you do several Biblical double-takes! If nothing else, Robert L. Gibson's The Nazarenes will get you talking!
