Ultimate guide to understanding Islam. With a Foreword by Hamza Yusuf, Imam & Director of Zaytuna Institute.
“Islam 101 is an inspiring guide which builds a bridge to understanding between America & Islam, as well as shattering the myths related to jihad & women...about Islam both from within & from how others view it, without being preachy.”
That being said, this Islam 101 (not to be confused with Islam 101: Principles & Practice by Arshad Khan), has a personal touch as Javed Mohammed guides us with poetry, excerpts from the holy texts, with history from the early days through modern thought.
Just as he did with his first book, Gems of Wisdom Heart of Gold, Javed Mohammed has invited other's to lend their voices in expressing what it is to be Muslim, & so has compiled a book with a human aspect, rather than an in-your-face arid textbook.
In the section on Jihad and Struggle, he explains exactly what jihad was meant to be & what it has become after the terrorists & the media got it in their sights.
In Bidge-Building, he gathers ideas about how Islam & the religions of the West can interface as well as some thoughts about the parallels between Muhammad & Buddha.
In another section we hear the voices of Muslim converts.
Quickly read, lingering over the thoughts, pondering on the ideas. Certainly a book from the heart, & one I hope will bring us all closer together.
Do check out Javed's Guest Editorial Being a Muslim in a Post 9/11 America & my Interview with him as well as his earlier book Gems of Wisdom Heart of Gold.
