How To Hear From God
Joyce Meyer
(Reviewer - Rev. Marie D. Jones)

2003 Warner Faith
ISBN: 0446532568

Learn to Know His Voice & Make the Right Decisions. An empowering book about discernment.

Associate Reviewer Rev. Marie D. Jones writes:

I am not a Christian, but have always loved the writing & speaking skills of Joyce Meyer. I began watching her show, Life In The Word, on my local cable channel & found her teachings to be empowering, humorous & clear. Even though she is an Evangelical, her work is accessible to anyone who simply wants to live a better, more spiritually centered life. She has written some of the best-selling books in Christian publishing history, including Battlefield of the Mind & How To Succeed At Being Yourself, as well as dozens of other top-selling books, booklets, audio programs & videotaped lectures.

In her newest book, How To Hear From God, Joyce Meyer writes with her own charm & style about discerning the voice of God in our lives, & using that guidance to direct us towards our goals, our dreams, & our purpose. She discusses the need to listen for inner guidance in a world that is often so bombarded with outside noises & distractions, & uses Bible-based teachings to help us develop “attentive ears” towards the voice of God.

Although her writing includes many Bible quotes, proverbs, lessons & preachings, Meyer has the wonderful ability as a writer to explain her lessons in a way that can help anyone of any faith or creed. She is one of the few Christian writers who does not bog down her words so deep in dogma that they become exclusive to only one group of followers, & this book continues that trend. I love that I, as a New Thought minister, can read How To Hear From God & get so much out of it, without ever feeling like I am being converted, chastised or coerced into Meyer's own religious beliefs. She focuses instead on the universal messages of the Bible, & how they apply to our lives in a realistic & usable sense.

Within the pages of this truly helpful & enlightening book, we read about how God talks to us every day, & how we get into trouble when we ignore God's voice, or refuse to take it into consideration. We also learn about obeying the voice of God once we do hear it, & how to align our life purpose with the will of God so that we are living the way we should be, & in the true spiritual flow of life.

Meyer also shows us how to keep our “receiver” free of blocks & negative voices, & how to get rid of hindrances that keep us from hearing God & following the path we are directed towards.

I truly enjoyed the entire book, but really felt the benefit of her insights into how & why God opens & shuts doors of opportunity, as well as her chapters on taking the active steps to not only listen for inner discernment, but what to do with it once we've heard it & gotten the message. This book doesn't just “tell”, it instructs & uses common sense examples, as well as Bible quotes, to drive the points home into the reader's heart.

Joyce Meyer loves to make her readers laugh, & she always uses a lot of humor, personal insight & experiences from her own life to pass on her wisdom. She is a terrific gift to all spiritual seekers, Christian or not, Evangelical or not, & How To Hear From God is worth reading & paying close attention to; another in the long line of great books written by a powerful & empowering writer, speaker & motivator.
