Grow Your Business Feed Your Soul.
Associate Reviewer Wayne Turmel writes:
If you're someone who wants to start or grow their business but are conflicted because “sales” is a dirty word, this one's for you. Molly Gordon has written a book that acknowledges the perception of marketing many of us have - sleazy, self-promoting & just plain scary - while sticking to the premise that you can't do the good work you want to do without people knowing about your business.
You can, she insists, do the latter without becoming what you fear most. It's a fine addition to a rare body of literature that insists you can do well by doing good.
This is not a book designed to be skimmed through & a couple of ideas plucked from it. This is a 12-week action plan for developing a marketing strategy that feeds off your deepest held beliefs about your business & helps overcome the gremlins in your head that tell you you're an artist (or a service provider, or a people-helper) & not a “business person”, whatever that is.
The one warning to anyone reading this book is that it focuses on the spiritual aspects of your business as much as the monetary. This can sometimes make the more Philistinian of us uncomfortable. “Imagine yourself with a long tail drilling down into the center of the earth”…may make us squirm with its New Age-iness... but her point is well taken, you can't take care of business if you don't have your head in the game.
Because this is an e-book, you can read it from your computer, which is terrific because it's full of links you can instantly click on & visit the sites she recommends. There are parts of this book you'll want to print out & review away from the monitor's glare.
The most valuable assets in the book are the worksheets & chapter summaries that ask the four questions anyone should ask themselves after reading a book like this - & so seldom can answer to our satisfaction:
1. What three ideas stand out from this chapter?
2. What seems possible now that may have seemed impossible (or you might not have been aware of) before?
3. Name one specific action you will take this week as a result of what you have learned.
4. What inquiry (her word for soul searching) will you explore this week?
Unlike so many books, Authentic Promotion answers these questions easily.
