Stories from the Coolest Race in Michigan.
Physician & Crim runner, Dr. Anthony Ellis, has compiled a group of inspirational & heartwarming tales of ordinary people who achieve the extraordinary when they were motivated off their couches & out into the fresh air in preparation for this renown road race.
With an introduction about the history of the Bobby Crim 10 Mile Road Race for Special Olympics, this book focuses on how, every year since 1977, the people of Flint, Michigan join together in a celebration called the Crim Festival of Races. Growing from its 576 inaugural runners to almost 7000 in 2005, the race has begat a variety of shorter ones for runners, walkers, & children.
Many of the stories emphasize the transformational power of the Crim Training Program, especially the “Galloway Method”, & celebrate the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone & into a healthier lifestyle. &. by extension, taking the passion out to your own home town to have fun with your neighbors.
Running the Crim is a fascinating record of the who, what & when of a town which got on its feet & started pounding the pavement. Along with the personal stories are black & white snapshots, CRIM FACTS dotted along the way, & a color photo spread from the races.
Dr. Ellis wrote in my copy that I should “enjoy the stories, and then get moving. A running editor gathers no dementia.” In other words, the town that runs together, lives happily together!
