As the author of The Frugal Book Promoter, I am the queen of all things thrifty. Without reservation, Troy Corley's Free L.A. does it for me.
As an Angeleno who misses the days before Prop. 13 when my adopted town was the land of the free, I am sick & tired of blowing a hundred bucks to schlepp a small family to a museum or the zoo & Knotts Berry Farm. Well, fugeddaboutit!
Free L. A. to the rescue. A small book, its $12.95 cost will easily be made up by the first trek I take using its advice. It plots out weekends to so much that is FREE in LA -- from concerts to doings that celebrate Cinco de Mayo -- a reader won't know where to start.
Because this book covers LA so well, it is only natural it should also cover where to find FREE parking, a not-so-minor detail for the peace of mind of anyone on wheels in LA, & that includes everyone. The edit&and contributors (a whole phalanx of them!) also know that even locals will appreciate the map coordinates to The Thomas Guide.
So, what suggestion did I find the most useful, next to that F word in the title? I liked that, in spite of having lived in the center of this nutshell for more than three decades, I found NEW things to do, & places to go. Would you believe Fredericks of Hollywood's Lingerie Museum? I also loved the list of FREE museum days. Those places that charge eight bucks for an adult ticket, actually give a visit away but you have to know when to go. This feature alone will prove invaluable when my relatives from the Rockies descend on my doorstep.
