Terrorism and Tyranny
James Bovard
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2003 Palgrave Macmillan
ISBN: 1403963681

Trampling Freedom, Justice and Peace to Rid the World of Evil after 9/11 & the War in Iraq.

Sr. Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

Personal liberty & freedom vis-a-vis the security of a nation. Has America become paranoid after the September 11th Attack?

In Terrorism and Tyranny, Bovard an acclaimed journalist bisects, rather dissects, the American policies on terrorism, the war on Iraq, & a whole bunch of neo-jingoism that arose following 9/11.

The book is a solid & comprehensive look on U.S. politics in the aftermath of the 9/11. Questions of personal liberty, human rights in the background of an unsafe America is discussed in detail herein. The author sure condemns the 9/11 attacks; he sure wants justice to be meted out & the culprits be booked -- but he argues that the present way is not the most ideal one to tackle the problem.

The author states that the Iraq War is wholly unjustifiable -- & only serves to protect the political ambitions of an incompetent President. Of course, the reader may disagree with many of the points raised, but I mostly agreed with the central theme of the work -- the Iraq war is almost over, Saddam Hussein is in hiding, (he might even be dead), but has terror finally come to an end? Will Americans, or for that matter people the world over, feel that such an incident as 9/11 will never ever happen again?

The author argues that the War on Terror has in fact only fuelled more hatred against America, & that this war instead of protecting & saving America, has put Americans at more & more risk.

Though I may disagree with many of the thoughts of the journalist author, I found his research commendable. Being in India, I felt disturbed by many of the revelations stated in Terrorism and Tyranny, & I feel that it is a must read for the student of contemporary politics, & all who wish for a better & peaceful U.S.A & world.
