Devil's Corner
Lisa Scottoline
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2006 HarperCollins
ISBN: 0060742895

A prosecutor turns detective when an informant is killed during a crack-cocaine investigation.

Sr. Associate Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

Readers expecting the return of Rosato & Associates, with its team of gutsy female lawyers are in for a surprise with this stand-alone legal thriller.

Devil's Corner features a new heroine, Vicki Allegretti, & she's tackling the evils of crack-cocaine trafficking among school children.

Allegretti is a rookie in the District Attorney's office. She dreams of big files, taking on crime & becoming a topnotch prosecutor. Eager beaver that she is she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time while doing an interview. Now she's looking down the business end a pistol held by a kid. Though she convinces him to drop the firearm, things go horribly wrong, & when the dust settles, two people lie dead.

Shaken & guilt-ridden Allegretti is determined to find out how that weapon got into the hands of the kid, & what he was so afraid of that he was willing to do murder.

As Allegretti hunts for answers she incurs the wrath of everyone at the DA's office. The only person on her side is Dan Malloy, her ex-boyfriend, who is now happily married to someone else. But when his closeness interferes with her investigation, she purposefully rubs him the wrong way & he quits. Now, she's all alone in a wicked situation in the seediest part of town -- Devil's Corner.

Action & suspense follow in brief, cliffhanger chapters as this Edgar Award winning lawyer-author takes on a serious issue seldom addressed in fiction: drug abuse, & how it's eating away at the roots of all societies at every level, & affecting the future & health of all our children.

Devil's Corner provides a thrilling & thoughtful read -- one you should not miss, especially if you have teenagers in your life, & they should read it too!
