  Silent Joe
   T. Jefferson Parker

  2001 Hyperion, NY
    ISBN: 0786867280

Joe Trona is scarred in more ways than one. Rescued from an orphanage by a charismatic Orange County politician, Joe is swept into the maelstrom of power & intimidation surrounding his father's illustrious career.

Serving as Will Trona's right-hand man & bodyguard, Joe is trained to protect & defend his father's territory until the paths of his father & a kidnapped girl cross in an alley one fateful, foggy night.

It isn't until Joe begins to sift through his father's life, from his girlfriends to political opponents, from shady deals & shadowy enemies, from rival gangs to debts of honor that he realizes how many secrets Will Trona kept & how much power he wielded.

As Joe follows the clues into deeper & darker places, he comes across a woman who lights up his life, gives him hope & a glimmer of a future.

Silent Joe is a man of few words, knowing how his scarred face, affects everyone he meets. For a long time he has hidden behind those scars, allowing them to speak for him, allowing them to keep his heart stifled.

T. Jefferson Parker has written much, much more than a thriller or a mystery - he has written a deeply satisfying journal of a wounded man's healing & his chance for redemption.

Joe is a prison guard by day & his insights into the life & times of that elite & most guarded society are fascinating. Joe sees things about relationships only someone who has been an outsider all their life can distinguish.

Silent Joe is a really good read, I enjoyed it immensely!

More from T. Jefferson Parker: Red Light; The Blue Hour; Where Serpents Lie; The Triggerman's Dance; Summer of Fear; Pacific Beat; Little Saigon & Laguna Heat.
