Railroaded
Whitfield Grant
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2005 Denver-Austin Publishing
ISBN: 0976118106

A taut courtroom thriller about an athlete accused of rape.

Sr. Associate Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

Many of you might not have heard about Whitfield Grant, but take it from me, within five years or so, he will be a household name so far as emotional, taut legal thrillers are concerned.

Railroaded packs a punch -- it's not your regular read & throw away thriller -- it's one to be savored & relished slowly as the ‘taste’ will remain for a long, long time.

Star athlete & footballer Tony Williams is the hero of many. As a completely happily married family man he has resisted the temptation of all his female fans. But when he scorns the daughter of his team owner, Williams is suddenly caught in a dilemma. The woman has started accusing him of rape. Now Tony Williams' life will never the same again.

Oh, & did I tell you Williams is an African American & the so-called victim a member of a prominent ‘white’ family? When the whole world turns on him, Williams enlists the help of two of his close buddies, Adrian Christopher, himself a football star, & Errol Forrest, a law student. What follows is courtroom action is superb, culminating in a trial that's so realistically & so factually portrayed that it's difficult to believe that it's fiction.

Railroaded reminded me a lot of the John Grisham's A Time To Kill in terms of realistic portrayal of racial tension, & Richard North Patterson's Silent Witness -- also a courtroom drama where a football player stands accused of rape.

An amazing read! Whitfield Grant is an author to watch out for & I understand he's at work on a sequel Derailed.
