A political assassination in St. Petersburg, Russia, triggers a chain of events that threatens to destroy the delicate balance of world power.
That assassination reopens a long buried secret of The Cold War. In a race against time through Warsaw, Moscow & Rome, David Olen, a world renowned architect & developer, with his own secret past, must cut deals before years of undercover work unravel, toppling a government & scandalizing the Vatican.
In his debut novel, Protokol, Eugene Golub brings to his writing, decades of experience as an international real estate developer, as well as the head of the first American firm to develop properties in Central, Eastern Europe, & Russia.
Sr. Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:
Protokol is one of those books that Rebecca committed to & after it arrived it ended up on my shelf, described as a novel of international intrigue.
When I glanced through the publicity sheets that came with the book, I found myself saying “Oh-hum”, & it went into my stack.
When Protokol finally surfaced, & I started to read, I found a little light bulb starting to glow.
Now as anyone can tell you who knows me fairly well, I'm a news junkie. Current events, history, draw me like a bee to honey. Can't leave it alone. & as I spent some of my youth as an intelligence agent, I know for a fact that there are a lot of ripples that exist on the international scene below the surface that never come to light.
One deeply intriguing aspect of the last 20 years, to me, was the fall of the Soviet Union -- the collapse of the Iron Curtain. I've often wondered what tidbits lurked beneath the highlights of the evening news, & the events surrounding that collapse.
In Protokol, I found a very tantalizing theory, well written, thought-provoking, & completely engrossing. A real “might have been” read. To me, those always make the best thrillers.
I liked this book! I enjoyed everything about Protokol, & when I finished it, I was glad I had read it. Don't miss the chance to pick up a real novel of international intrigue. You might look at Pope John Paul a bit differently, if you do.
A very well done first novel!
