The Dead Room
Robert Ellis
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2002 Pinnacle Books
ISBN: 0786014547

A Civil Attorney investigates a series of brutal murders within a corrupt justice system & dirty politics.

Sr. Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

Robert Ellis' debut work is a legal thriller on one level, a political thriller in another, & a superb suspense mystery -- one that will please Readers of "whydunits" & "whodunits."

A young woman has been savagely murdered & she seems to be one of the victims in a string of linked murders. The murderer is cunning, ruthless, & with a reason, a secret vital to each murder -- but what it is, is known only to him.

Attorney Teddy Mack, who has little experience in criminal matters is called to investigate into the same. The novice but intelligent attorney faces a daunting task, with a corrupt justice system & dirty politics stacked against him. Mack's persistence, however, pays off & he soon enters into a world of corruption & high stake shenanigan's where the killer always seems to be just a foot away. What follows is a page-turning suspenseful ride, with an unexpected twist in the tale's tail.

The Dead Room is a fabulous thriller. A "Thomas Harris touch" in narration is the highlight, & the book reminds me a lot of Silence of the Lambs & Hannibal. Though no Perry Mason, Teddy Mack is heroic & likeable. Down-to-earth & pragmatic in his research & investigation, Mack comes across as a person who is all-human. He has the makings of a series protagonist & I wouldn't be surprised to see another Teddy Mack mystery in a couple of years.

The Dead Room is a fast-paced mystery, an easy read, & a highly recommended evening's entertainment.
