(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)
2003 Warner Books
ISBN: 0446674826
The past catches up with a Viet Nam Veteran.
He is a good man, a brilliant corporate executive, an honest, handsome family man admired by men & desired by women.
But a lifetime ago Ben Tyson was a lieutenant in Vietnam. There the men under his command committed a murderous atrocity -- & together swore never to tell the world what they had done.
Now the press, army justice, & the events he tried to forget have caught up with Ben Tyson. His family, his career, & his personal sense of honor hang in the balance. & only one woman can reveal the truth of his past -- & set him free.
Sr. Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:
There is no need to write a review of this book. With umpteen reprints since its first publication in 1985; translations in 25 languages, you gotta know that the book is wonderful, nope MESMERIZING!
If Norman Mailer's The Naked and the Dead was the novel about WWII, Word of Honor would take the award, rather the honor, for the quintessential novel on the Vietnam War.
Through the eyes of Ben Tyson, one-time Army lieutenant in Vietnam, DeMille narrates a warm & magnificent tale of military honor & Army Justice when the past catches up with him. The truth has to prevail, Justice has to reign -- but the cost will be heavy, the honor, the reputation -- all will be lost forever.
What does an All-American ex-GI, do under such circumstances? Forget valor & honor & go for justice? Or...?
A fine courtroom drama, a court-martial proceeding & a story that's simply fantabulous.
It sure would be the pride of your book collection.
