  Sea Strike
   James H. Cobb

  1997 G. P. Putnam's Sons NY USA
   ISBN: 0399143246

It is 2006 in the Straits of Formosa, Taiwan & Communist China are about to engage in mortal combat. Commander Amanda Lee Garrett & the crew of the USS CUNNINGHAM are sent out to prevent a Pacific Rim disaster.

I liked this one a lot, thought about it for days although I won't read it again.

Good imagery of future naval warfare. Great dialogue. Good characterizations. Gives his military characters a good sense of humanity. Is probably overly optimistic about the Glass Ceiling for Women in the Navy.

Starts in the year 2006 in the Formosa Strait & really takes us through what many feel will be one of the major theaters of conflict in the future.

Writes a really gripping read about the techno-politco-geostrategic gamesmanship between nations and how close to the brink some might be willing to step.

I couldn't put it down during the last four chapters, really winds up tight for its climax.
