 Target Lock
 James H. Cobb
 (Sr. Staff Reviewer - D. H. BROWN)

 2002 G. P. Putnam's Sons
  ISBN: 0399148493

Book Cover

Commander Amanda Lee Garrett & her U.S. Navy task force hunt the Indonesian sea for a downed industrial research satellite.

While cruising around some of the most beautiful, but uncharted, islands on earth in the Indonesian archipelago, Commander Garrett, begins to suspect that a high-tech pirate is behind the robbery of the lost satellite. The man she sets her sights on has amassed a sea force & built a hidden fortress that is undetectable by all but the most sensitive intel equipment.

Then Garrett is kidnapped. Her crew of the destroyer USS Cunningham, with its array of modern weaponry & aircraft, is hot on her trail.

Senior Staff Reviewer D. H. BROWN writes:

In Target Lock James H. Cobb has created another rollicking good read!

As with all military-techno thrillers in the genre, a certain mindset is required. War & the making of war is not a subject that one can come to uninformed, unless you're willing to eat premises whole, rather than savoring with small bites.

I am an old Veteran from Viet Nam & have enough of a foundation whereon to sit, as I make a meal of this fine read.

All of the superlatives of breathtaking, vividly imagined, lightening-paced, realistic are inherent in this very well-written & capable read.

The central character of Target Lock, Captain Garrett, is a strong woman with an indepth naval heritage which she lives up to quite handily, without being a stick-in-the-mud or prude.

I first came to Captain Garrett's acquaintance in Sea Strike, which I also reviewed. I have continued to be impressed by this author's adventures.

Target Lock came to my hand from our local library just the day after watching a special on FOX NEWS about the new maritime piracy that is springing up all over the world & especially in the Indonesian archipelago. I found Target Lock apropos to the current war on terrorism & the future threat of high seas piracy.

James H. Cobb has very capably taken from the present & reached into the future to combine fact & fiction & brought forth an engrossing read.

I highly recommend his writing & would encourage any reader to pursue his work. Target Lock stands on its own & at the pinnacle as a tour de force of this author's works. Becoming acquainted with James H. Cobb's writings will only leave you wanting more.
