The Camel Club
David Baldacci
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)
2005 Warner Books
ISBN: 0446577383
Four Capitol misfits meet weekly to discuss conspiracies, & what to do about them.
Sr. Associate Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:
Is this a Baldacci work or a Dan Brown I'm reading? I turn to look at the cover -- yes -- it is but I'm not convinced.
With Baldacci you expect taut & subtle action, not rapid fire intense action, broiled in conspiracies. Charmed by Absolute Power, The Simple Truth & Last Man Standing I was expecting something along those lines with The Camel Club. Proving that you can't second guess a master author, Baldacci delivers a real suspense thriller that's so un-Baldacci, & I mean that in a positive sense.
The Camel Club is a group of people, each one more enigmatic than the other, with one common thread -- they believe in wild fantasies, they develop wild conspiracy theories & discuss them.
Most mysterious of the group is Oliver Stone (not THE Oliver Stone, but a name adopted by the character in honor of the real numero-uno conspiracy theorist film director), & it's through the eyes of Stone & his fellow conspiracy devotees The Camel Club proceeds.
When the members of the Club witness something more shocking & gruesome than their collective wildest theories, Stone begins to realize that truth definitely is stranger than fiction.
Conspiracy books & for that matter, movies & television serials like X-Files, have always commanded a cult following, & for those, The Camel Club is a must read. Oliver Stone is one character you will not forget in a long, long time.
What the conspiracy was, & how bizarre/ intriguing it was.... find out for yourself & know... THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.
A good read -– wonder when the movie will be out?
