A U.S. Navy surgeon on a medical team cares for Vietnamese & Montagnards in the isolated Central Highlands of South Vietnam.

Daniel is not looking for adventure or romance, he's intent on survival & when he falls in love with a woman whose past is doubtful, he feels he cannot abandon her, yet he must.

Back home in Minnesota, life is not good. The anti-war movement is in full cry & Daniel feels adrift, unable to cope with returning to medicine. One of Daniel's neighbors at the lake, a veteran of the Korean War, is struggling with his memories. Can these two wounded men help each other heal? Can Daniel resume his medical career? Can he ever find love & a direction in life again?

Personal Wars is based upon Richard Siebert, MD's memories, & he has included several of his own illustrations, which give an authenticity to the novel. While an important addition to the library of fictional personal journeys, it seemed to go on for ever.

Reading Veterans will find much to think about in Personal Wars. It was a different time & a different America back then, & what Daniel Schubert had to work out is mirrored in many a Veteran's life.

Richard Siebert, MD has written about what he knows. He was there in Viet Nam during 1966 & 1967 as a doctor. He used his 250 page diary of his tour of duty from which to draw on for his first novel.
