Hester Mundis
(Reviewed by The Editor - Rebecca Brown)
2001 Workman Publishing, New York
ISBN: 0894803832

As Hester Mundis writes in her Introduction: There's no time like the present to start thinking about tomorrow, which is why I've written this guide to enlightenment now. After an amazing journey of self-discovery that began with an en epiphany in Bloomingdale's and took me beyond the limits of rational experience, maxed out my credit cards, and became a whirlwind intensive in heightened consciousness that makes Shirley MacLaine's look like a stroll through the mall, I've discovered that reincarnation is not a birthright. It's more a birth wrong. In fact, it's “flunking life.”
That said, this author proceeds to take us through the forest of philosophy by giving us a test! Yes, you're going to be tested on how you lived your life! That's what reincarnation is really all about. So, dear Reader, what grade are you going to get when you sign-out & head for the Pearly Gates?
Remember, 101 Ways to Avoid Reincarnation is a book of humor &, as that old adage warns, there's many a true word spoken in jest. Hester Mundis is a jester, tweaking us out of our dull dumps & into hilarious hells.
Hester Mundis has seen the light & has brought it to us in a well-written, fast-read little book that will have you chuckling, snorting, ahha-ing & groaning. Her grasp of the double entendres inherent in the vocabulary of this New Age, is positively charged with the ions of idiocy.
She has taken all the trappings, aphorisms & gusto of the New Age & briskly, ebulliently & elbow-diggingly served them up in chapters that read like a roadmap to heavenly hilarity.
I don't remember a book whose Contents ran a full 3½ pages long, 101 Ways to Avoid Reincarnation however, runs the entire spectrum, the full monty, the total range from Astral Plane Reservations thru Karma, Karma, Karma Chameleons to Creative Visualizations for All Occasions thru Holistic Housekeeping (one of my favorites). From Entertaining Negatives and Other New Age Gaffes to Why Good things Happen to Bad People to We Are All Food to Utterly Divine Divinations to I Ching, You Ching, We All Ching to Atlantis on $5 a Day to Relaxing is Hard Work to Gestalt! God Bless You to The Tao of Shopping, Martial vs. Marital Arts & What the Universe Does Not Provide.
That's just a sampling, mind you! The Chapters are short, their logic impeccable, & their conclusions mind-boggling! All in the name of fun!
As The Good Book says, there is a time to get serious & a time to crack-up. Hester Mundis has supplied us with 101 Ways to Avoid Reincarnation & some funny ways to join in with this Cosmic Comedy we call Life.
