The simple elegance of twig furniture & Household Things evokes nostalgia for our rural past & conjures up an appreciation of the natural beauty of woods & thickets. Using materials readily available twig furniture is both a pleasure to gather & use.
We live in Alder & Willow land with a few Dogwood, Cedar & Madrone dotted about, so ambling into our forests, looking for branches & twigs to fashion a seat, mirror frame or basket is a common pastime for us.
I have found Abby Ruoff's Making Twig Furniture both useful & charming. There is a poignancy about this kind of furniture that goes deep into our souls. Almost a sense of sitting in a tree.
My favorites are: the Settee, the Wattle Arm Chair, the Child's Ladder Back Chair, the Wall Clock & the Herb Drying Rack.
The Bark Baskets have been a project I've deeply enjoyed, converting them to pencil holders. One other thing I've made with twigs is a herd endearing reindeers.
An elegant & useful book - especially for wood lovers. Would make a great gift!
