Trees of the West
Mabel Crittenden
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
1992 Hancock House Publishers
ISBN: 0888392699
A unique handbook to get to know your trees.
With more than 160 illustrations & a sure-fire key to identifying our living green friends.
Trees of the West points out the distinguishing characteristics, unusual facts, usefulness, edibility, & beauty of each tree.
A simple modest book with simple accurate drawings, which I find easily fits into my backpack as I set out into all the greenery of the Pacific Northwest.
Her last chapter: How to Grow Native Trees from Seeds, explains techniques developed in nurseries which readers can use to obtain a higher seed germination rate.
Mabel Crittendon discovered her passion for trees & flowers early. Her mother was an amateur botanist & her father a geologist. She majored in biology at college & did graduate studies in botany at Stanford University.
