Arab Americans contributions to & settlement in the Golden State, with a summary of Arab world history & culture.
As Janice Marschner explains in her Preface how her book California's Arab American came about: “Following 9/11 there was a reported rise in hate crimes against Middle Eastern American -- Arabs, Afghans, Sikhs, South Asians, and also others mistaken for Arabs or Muslims. I recalled my earlier idea for a book about California's immigrants, and decided it should be written now...”
This is a good primer for learning about the Arab world with 15 chapters covering the various Arab American families in the counties of California, complete with photos of families, religious & community centers.
Janice Marschner cites many books & unpublished sources in her Bibliography some of which are:
The Arabs: Journeys Beyond the Mirage
An Ancient Heritage: The Arab-American Minority
Before the Flames: A Quest for the History of Arab-Americans
More from Janice Marschner: California 1850: A Snapshot in Time.
