Associate Reviewer Kate Holmes writes:
In The Adventures of Mighty Mom, with a Foreword by Becky Freeman, Author Gwendolyn Mitchell Diaz shares just some of the experiences of what she calls “the unique privilege of raising an ‘Angel' and a ‘Devil'. ” pg. 252. In recounting certain memories of motherhood, the poignant moments, as well as the difficult, her wonderful sense of humour allows us to see the challenges of motherhood in a whole new light.
With one amusing anecdote after another, this witty wife & mother of four healthy & rambunctious boys, offers up colourful colloquialisms such as her description of one of her sons as “happier than a two-tongue frog in a swamp full of dragonflies!” She is truly a comedic storyteller.
The obvious difference between The Adventures of Mighty Mom & many others on the market today with similar content, is the humble & gracious manner in which Gwendolyn Mitchell Diaz approaches even the most irritating behaviours & the fact that a heart-felt prayer accompanies each & every tale. This mother is a lesson on how to keep your sanity through diapers, baseball, & the teenage years. Her faith is astounding!
Gwendolyn Mitchell Diaz' love for her children is apparent in the joy she experiences watching a sixteen year old son learn about parenting from toting around 2 hard boiled eggs to “babysit” as if they were a set of twin infants in Cats Can't Babysit, a most amusing story.
Gwendolyn Mitchell Diaz likens her life, with considerable wisdom, to an arcade game known by most people as Gopher Heads, which is sometimes played with alligators, where the heads pop up & you smash them back down, only to have them pop up again. Is it any wonder every story begins with Biblical quotes & ends with prayer?
For any woman with children, The Adventures of Mighty Mom is a very worthwhile read, & especially mothers of Christian faith.
Reviewer's Bio
She is a Canadian wife, mother, grandmother, & avid reader. She has hungered for knowledge her whole life which has led her to haunt her local library & used book stores, looking for “old friends.” She has several bookshelves over which presides a print of Amergin, an ancient wizard from Celtic myth.
A welcome addition to her study, Della, her computer (named for its maker), has become a large part of her world. For some time Kate Holmes reviewed for another ezine, & as a means of giving herself a more varied reading experience, has joined RebeccasReads as a Associate Reviewer.
