The Complete Book of Dreams
Julia & Derek Parker
1998 DK Publishing Inc. NY USA
ISBN: 0789432951
In clear & beautifully illustrated details the images of our dreams are interpreted. A Dream Theme & Thesaurus listing thousands of symbols, make this a fascinating reference book.
For something I've done every night of my life, I'm coming late to the study of dreams & dreaming. I can still remember fragments of nightmares; those demented, violent dramas that seemed to fill my sleeping time, tear my bed apart & awaken me in a panic. Nowadays my dreams are quite different, although elements of my childhood dreams will occasionally make brief appearances, especially flying.
There are four sections to The Complete Book of Dreams: You and Your Dreams gives Dream History, the Mechanics of Sleep & Why Dreams Happen. Very informative, useful & curious.
The second section is about Interpreting Your Dreams & teaches you how to remember, record & analyze your dreams whether they be normal or problem dreams.
Section three is the Dream Themes:- wholly familiar, profound & fascinating. Section four: The Dream Thesaurus is a quick & clear reference.
Ian Andrew's original illustrations of actual dream sequences are stimulating, evocative & superbly rendered. I was entranced by Anna Lord's selections of pictures from the archives of the western world, she must have viewed thousands & had fun choosing.
Does this book work? By & large, yes. Is it useful? Uncommonly so.
Remember, only you can recall your dreams, the sequences & the images. The Complete Book of Dreams simply & clearly instructs you on what the symbolism could be & what the sequences may mean.
Well done, indeed!
