Kids Find Underground Railroad Site.
In the rolling hills of southern Indiana, Ginger Wanamaker & her best friend, Irene Fong (whose ancestors were brought to Suriname as slaves), along with Laird, a wire fox terrier dog, make a great discovery: Ginger's grandparent's home was once a station on the Underground Railroad before the Civil War.
Simply told by Ginger, about to be a fifth grader, the best friends have an exciting summer month learning about vintage sports cars, how National Parks are run, how archeaology sites are preserved, all about fox terriers & lots more, all illustrated with lively drawings by Irene Joslin.
What I like about the way Gerald Allen Wunsch has written Curiosity is that at the end of each chapter are “links” to more information at the back of the book about all the diverse things the girls find out: slavery, Buffalo Nickels, Harriet Beecher Stowe, etc.
Gerald Allen Wunsch is a retired attorney & a career diplomat serving with the U.S. State Department in Mexico, Suriname & the Netherlands. Curiosity is his first novel.
