Suma & Sulu are twins in the rainforest who must save their tribe from a terrible woe. With The Forgetting, Suma & Sulu's people don't remember their special gifts nor their talents, & become envious & resentful of each other.
When the twins' Grandmother sets off to talk with the Ancestors, Suma & Sulu fall prey to the dread illness, & where once they were supportive of each other, they've become competitive & jealous.
Meanwhile, in her wanderings Grandmother has come across a funny, little monkey who drops a purple nut on her head, which, when it breaks open, reveals two glowing seeds, nestled together.
As Grandmother wonders how these two little seeds can help save her tribe, she realizes that it is her twin grandchildren who are the answer, & home she goes carefully carrying the Magic Seeds.
In the publicity page for The Magic Seed it says that “...children experience an entertaining and constructive lesson in the value of self-esteem, self-confidence, sharing, respecting others and a good dose of positive-thinking.”
Embedded in this lively tale, beautifully illustrated by Alexandra Artigas, is a delightful creation story & some accessible thoughts about attitude changing.
Sharon Price's The Magic Seed is destined to become a family favorite, & lull many a child to sleep with its lovely images & ideas.
