Amazement Park
Roxie Munro
(Reviewer - Rev. Marie D. Jones)

2005 Chronicle Children's
ISBN: 0811845818

An eye-popping interactive book for kids who love amusement parks & mazes alike.

Associate Reviewer Rev. Marie Jones writes:

This children's author & illustrator earned a top spot in my home with her book, Doors, which includes tons of lift-up doors & hidden goodies to find on every page. My son jumped when he saw her newest one, Amazement Park, for he knew it, too, was bound to be filled with all kinds of hide-&-seek treats for the eye & the mind.

Each page of this big, delightful book is filled with hidden details to seek out, this time amidst 12 different mazes that are set in a gigantic amusement park. The mazes are challenging enough for parents to do along with their kids, & the visuals of roller-coasters & rides are so vivid & colorful, you can almost hear the whir of the Ferris Wheel & the roar of the supersonic roller-coaster zoom by, even as you are searching for the many objects the author loves to fill her pages with.

There are ice cream stands on every page, & a man carrying three balloons as we follow a teacher & her class through the huge park. But they are all well-hidden & hard to spot, even for an eagle-eye Where's Waldo veteran like myself, & that is the fun of Amazement Park. It provides hours of entertainment for child & parent & teaches kids to really look for details & focus their attention, something even my toddler was able to achieve thanks to the bold & whimsical illustrations.

Roxie Munro's art & illustrations have graced the covers of New Yorker magazine, & hang in museums across the country, but it is her awesome children's books that take the cake at my house. Like her earlier Mazescapes & Doors, this newest book is a blast, & destined to become a family favorite. Unless, of course, your child doesn't like amusement parks, & have you ever met a kid who didn't?
