  Different Just Like Me
   Lori Mitchell

  1999 Talewinds Books/
   Charlesbridge Publishing, Watertown, MA
   ISBN: 0881069752

April is excited about taking a trip to visit her grandmother & the week she has to wait seems very long. So each day she finds someone & something interesting & different to meet & think about.

Although the author makes a note at the outset of this book that she was inspired by her daughter's encroaching illness, vitiligo, the April in the story doesn't seem to have anything different about her for her to be so interested in how different everyone else is.

Nonetheless, this is a lively, beautifully illustrated adventure of a week in the life of a little girl, filled with curiosity with a keen eye for the world about her. How alike we all are in our differences & how alike our differences all are.

Lori Mitchell's pictures leave a little something for our imagination, for coloring in & are charming. A good learning book.

A worthy first effort indeed! Makes a fine gift too.

Do check out my mini-Interview with Lori Mitchell.
