I've Got Mail!
Robert & Laura Messinger
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
2001 Little Mai Press
ISBN: 189323701X
A child's glee at receiving emails via her father's computer charmingly assisted by John Salerno's energetic illustrations.
Since she was an infant, Laura has been bouncing on her father's lap as he works on his computer. She'd laugh at his “mouse” & giggle at all the words he'd use.
Then, in a blink of an eye (so it seems to Laura's dad), that happy-go-lucky child of his suddenly wants to join in.
When Laura's Dad's computer said “You've got mail,” Laura knew she was in for an adventure, about Great Uncle Phil & Great Aunt Dinah walking a wall in China; or Cousin George & the birth of his triplets, & other news from family.
Laura's Dad also created a book just for her, loaded with all her favorite things - ducks, swings & monkeys too!
When her Dad took her out on the Web, she couldn't see one spider, although he found for her her favorite purple dinosaur & all her cartoon chums.
Still, Laura felt something was missing. When she was six years old, she finally knew what that was. She wanted her own email!
How Laura's Dad sets up her account & teaches her how to use it, is a fun lesson for us all. Then Laura has to wait a whole day through school before dashing home so her Dad can help her hear his computer say to her: “You've got mail!” What a thrill!
I've Got Mail will make a really fine Fathers Day Gift!
