Adventures of Riley
Amanda Lumry & Laura Hurwitz
(Reviewer - Rev. Marie D. Jones)

2004 Eaglemont Press
ISBN: 0966225791

Amazon River Rescue. For kids of all ages with a message about care for the earth.

The third chapter in the sensational Adventures of Riley Amazon River Rescue reads like the classic children's books of old, with morally-centered characters, dramatic plot twists & enough captivating science to hold the attention of even the most reluctant reader.

Associate Reviewer Rev. Marie D. Jones writes:

Adventures of Riley is a fun & educational new book series focusing on taking kids on wildlife adventures to exotic places, with a particular theme of protecting & preserving the natural world. These environment-friendly educational books blend vibrant & boldly colorful illustrations with engaging characters in unusual locations, offering plenty of facts along the way. In this installment, Amazon River Rescue, our delightful hero, young Riley, takes off to the rain forest to help his Uncle Max find new species of creatures great & small. Accompanied by his cousin Alice, Riley gets into some pretty wild predicaments, encountering jaguars, tarantulas, snakes, spiders, sloths & even some soccer players!

Throughout the story, the reader is exposed to facts & statistics provided by wildlife experts, biologists & environmental experts, making this a true learning experience that any parent can feel good about. Authors Amanda Lumry & Laura Hurwitz have crafted a great series for kids, & Sarah McIntyre's accompanying artwork adds a vivid impact.

I loved the story, the characters, the educational material, & mostly, the awesome illustrations that beg to be translated to a television screen (Adventures of Riley movie or cartoon series, anyone???). I also loved the fact that the story emphasizes respect for nature & conservation, & that book sales help a number of animal & wildlife charities.

Readers who love this book can also join a fun & totally free, membership called Riley's World: www.adventuresofriley.com, filled with more educational things to do. This is a wonderful series that bridges the gap between fun & learning in a way that really grabs kids in & gets them excited about the natural world, & their important part in it.

I hope to see more adventures of Riley, as he travels along with his family & friends to more exotic locales soon, but for now, I'm having a great time here in the Amazon.

Wish you were here!
