Owl At Home
Arnold Lobel
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
1975 Harpercollins Juvenile Books
ISBN: 0060239492
Owl's passionate & dramatic adventures with The Guest, Strange Bumps, Tear-Water Tea, Upstairs & Downstairs & The Moon.
In The Guest, Owl opens his front door to the sound of knocking & has a surprise visitor who upsets Owl's neat life.
In Strange Bumps, Owl has the same experience so many of us do when we awaken from a sound sleep & see usual things in the unusual dark.
Tear-Water Tea is my favorite & my children would beg me to read this one over & over again. Tear-Water Tea is a bitter-sweet brew.
Upstairs & Downstairs is a hilarious story for anyone who thinks the grass is greener someplace else.
Owl & The Moon is such a magical, poetical story that I recite it even now, when the moon comes over our hill & beams down upon us.
This little book & the friendly, affectionate Owl were my children's best friend for quite a few years. I still keep our copy on my shelves even though my chickadees are long flown. They loved the ideas of looking at life the way Arnold Lobel & Owl do, they blink in anticipation as the stories gather speed & they hoot with laughter at Owl's take on life, then snuggle with satisfaction when it's all done & we've talked about it.
