Hugs
Pennie Kidd & Susie Poole
(Reviewer - Rev. Marie D. Jones)

2003 Warner Faith
ISBN: 0446533009

A Special Bedtime Prayer. A warm & whimsical children's book that will inspire hugs in all ages.

Associate Reviewer Rev. Marie D. Jones writes:

You know a children's book is destined to be a classic when your toddler won't let go of it, & even wants to sleep with it. When I read Hugs: A Special Bedtime Prayer by Pennie Kidd with illustrations by Susie Poole, to my little boy, Max, he not only proceeded to hug everyone in sight afterwards, but insisted on taking the book everywhere with him. He just loves this gorgeous big hardcover book. In fact, it has taken the place of his favorite Teddy.

The fun & simple rhyming story talks about the joys of giving & getting hugs, & the brightly colored, whimsical illustrations are an absolute delight for the eye. Together, words & pictures combine to create a vivid & sweet book that will surely become a family favorite. There is a lightly spiritual undertone to the story, which will appeal to parents eager to introduce their young ones to the concepts of God & praying & loving others.

I read this book to my son at least five times a day, & each time it makes me smile just as much as it makes him smile, especially when I see the affect it has on him. He hugs us his parents, his grandmother, his great-grandmother & even his aunts & uncles so much more now, & I even caught him reading the book to his Teddy bear, & then hugging the bear tightly.

Hugs is a beautiful & warm book that can be enjoyed by children of all ages, from two to 102, & is a highly recommended addition to any child's bookcase. Believe me, it won't stay there for long.
