March of the Penguins
Luc Jacquet
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
2006 National Geographic
ISBN: 0792261836
The companion book of text & photos to the beloved movie.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, I encouraged you to rustle-up your rug rats & herd them all off to the local cinema or purchase it from your tv programming provider & settle in for an hour or two of an adventure from the bottom of our world.
& when you've done that, buy a copy of this National Geographic book (they sponsored the scientists, photographers & explorers who lived & worked alongside the Penguins) so you'll have a few of those glorious images to rekindle your imagination & memories.
Open to page one & catch a glimpse of that snowy desolation, courtesy of Jerome Maison's exquisite photography, turn the page & meet the stars of this monumental endeavor, & follow Jordan Roberts' narration as the Penguins begin their very long walk (& slide) to their nesting ground a hundred miles inland.
Marvel at the colors these gentle creatures of the sea & snow sport in the monochromatic Antarctica -- such golds & reds amid their elegant blacks & white.
& then have your heart cracked open with a ton of affection you never knew you were storing up, as the mamas & papas struggle to keep their solitary egg warm, waiting, waiting, with nothing to eat in the frigid winter, for the Sun to return, for that first cheep, that first crack.
March of the Penguins will resonate with children & adults alike, creating a lifetime of endearing family memories, & reconnecting us to the cold, hard reality of what some of us have to go through to bring our offspring into this world & make sure they survive.
Bravo! Outstanding!
