An Accidental Cowboy
Jameson Parker
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2003 Thomas Dunne Books
ISBN: 0312310242

The Hollywood star recounts how his life has changed since being shot by a neighbor.

The incident left Jameson Parker unable to act any more as well as psychologically crippled. In an attempt to get his life back, he moved away into the California hill country where he & his wife run a cattle & horse ranch.

Sr. Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

We have seen the stars, raw but suave charmers on the silver screen. We have read about real-life cowboys, but an actor who really became a cowboy, that's something different. Jameson Parker, one-time Hollywood star, takes us through the whirlwind ride of his exciting & tumultuous life & career.

As a moderately successful actor in movies & television series -- Simon & Simon, life was good for Jameson Parker. All this changed in 1992, when the actor was shot pointblank by a neighbor. The physical wounds healed, but the mental trauma, the anguish never did. He was plagued with the psychological scars, the dreadful nightmares & the fear he had of declining into a state of manic depression.

In an effort to heal, Jameson Parker & his wife made a decision that changed him forever. The initial struggles as a beginner rancher, the difficulties of “cowboy life” & coming to terms with a life away from the entertainment capital are told in vivid detail & an unassuming style which makes for an engaging read.

An Accidental Cowboy is a good read.
