Down in the Garden
Anne Geddes
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
1996 Cedco Pub.Co.
ISBN: 0836287444
This ultimate baby book is filled with photos of charming infants in unaccustomed settings clad in whimsical costumes.
It is Springtime & the babies are a-borning so I offer you this review of the most spectacular baby album ever created. As you open Down in the Garden you have to wonder what magic Anne Geddes wove to gather so many contented babies in one place at one time in so many spontaneous poses. I suspect behind the camera stood a horde of impassioned mothers!
This big, bright hug of a book is simply sensational & has to be seen to be experienced & enjoyed. I doubt there's a human alive who, upon seeing any one of the many large photos, will be able to suppress a grin. For others, especially mothers & grandmothers, there will be many a teary eye.
Yes, I can describe the pages...a field of daisies each a wide-awake curious child or chrysalises hanging from a branch or a chickadee in a bird house or a daffodil-crowned cutie in a flower pot - however, you have to see them to appreciate the humor & happiness.
This is one of those times when words pale before the pictures - you've simply got to see the carrot-lings, the earthworms, tulips, berries, hedgehogs, pecan nuts &...&...&...
Anne Geddes also has a fine collection of calendars & books: The Twelve Days of Christmas; ABC; 123; My First Five Years.
