Sandi von Pier's Interview with
Sandra Brown
Author of Envy
|
Sandi :
I related to Maris' love of a good mystery & I was taken with her right away. Was Maris' character based someone you might have known? What about Parker & Noah?
SB :
No, I can honestly say that Maris, like all my characters, was a product of my imagination. However, Parker reflected some of the things I feel about writing and being a writer. I'm glad I do not know Noah!
Sandi :
In your line of work you must know someone like the infamous Nadia.
SB :
Yes, I do know someone like Nadia, but that individual shall remain nameless.
Sandi :
The title of your book and the title of Parker's manuscript is Envy. That is a great twist, how did you come up with this story?
SB :
Like all my stories, this one grew & evolved from a germ of an idea. My initial idea was for two college friends to become competitive when they choose the same career path. Making them writers seemed a natural choice.
Sandi :
Did you have a special teacher like Parker's professor?
SB :
In all honesty, I never took a writing course. I did, however, have friends, editors & my agent who served as critics and advisors.
Sandi :
What were your favorite books as a child?
SB :
My favorite books as a child were fairy tales. I loved reading about imperiled heroes & heroines who lived happily ever after. In fact, I still do.
Sandi :
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
SB :
I suppose I've always had a secret ambition to be a writer. It did not become a conscious decision until my late twenties.
Sandi :
What are your favorite writing tools -- the computer or the good old pen & paper?
SB :
Sometimes when I'm plotting, I use a pen & tablet. But when I get down to the nitty & gritty, I do everything on the computer.
Sandi :
What time of day do you do your best writing?
SB :
I'm not a morning person, & I save the evenings for my family, so my best writing time is between twelve & six.
Sandi :
Who are your favorite authors now & why?
SB :
I decline to answer because I love so many for different reasons.
Sandi :
Can you tell us what you're working on now?
SB :
I'm already working on a novel for 2002, called The Crush. It has a real creep for a villain, some scary moments, & of course, a strong heroine & hero.
Sandi :
Thank you, Admired Author, for giving of your precious time to participate in this Interview.
